Consumables

SURFE²R™ is a cell-free measurement based on solid-supported membranes that allow direct functional analysis of electrically active transporters. IonGate provides disposable sensor chips as well as reagent kits for use with SURFE²R workstations.

Single sensors and sensor plates are available. Both consist of injection-molded, plastic-cover bonded to glass panels. The glass panels carry a functional gold pad with an adhesive surface (solid-supported membrane) for membrane fragments or vesicles.

Single sensors are designed to work with SURFE²R Workstation 5, 50 and 500 (optional). They are shipped pre-coated and are ready-to-use for the preparation and loading of membrane solutions.

SURFE²R Plates

SURFE²R plates accommodate 96 sensors, which are arranged as an
8 x 12 array in a standard microtiter plate layout. Sensor plates are designed to operate with SURFE²R Workstation 500 and 5000. Plates are shipped pre-coated and are ready-to-use for the preparation and loading of membrane solutions.
Reagents

Reagents for sensor preparation

The SURFE²R Technology allows the functional analysis of target proteins in a wide range of membrane systems, e.g. membrane sheets, proteoliposomes and membrane vesicles of different origin. IonGate has established a generic protocol for the adsorption of these membranes onto the sensor surface and provides the corresponding reagent kit for establishing the solid-supported membrane.

The reagent kit is comprised of two components: SensorPrepA Solution contains an alkanethiol for regenerating the pre-treated sensor surface. SensorPrepB Solution is used to generate a lipid layer and the completion of the solid-supported membranes, which are then ready for adsorption of sample membranes.
