Small Compartments with Great ImpactDiscover the Mitochondrion Mitochondria are exceptional little “creatures”: believed to be originally derived endosymbionts they became the powerhouses of our cells. They are a bit alien and for that reason it has not been possible to draw all their secrets so far. Mitochondria are important in a wide range of diseases such as cancer, diabetes, obesity or age-related neurodegenerative diseases. IonGate now has developed a method to analyse transport proteins in native mitochondrial membranes. To meet especially the needs of academic research seeking to understand and decipher the impact of mitochondria in various diseases, the new SURFE²R Workstation 5 will be launched early in 2009.
